Weekend Wardrobe: Fashionable Bike Rides

Sunday Funday: Bike Rides

As the summer winds to an end, a great way to enjoy the cooler days of August is to indulge in a bike ride on a weekend afternoon.  And what could be a better fashion accessory than a cute beach cruiser to explore the city in?  A great biking outfit consists of comfortable clothes, but is even better if those clothes can be comfortable and stylish.  A pair of combat boots are tough, but the floral print takes the edge off and looks so summery.  A lazy pullover sweater will keep you warm against the wind, and a floral print headband will pull your hair back, as well as complement the booties.  A mini backpack holds all your necessities, including a good book and some refreshments.  And don’t forget a smile- it’s the best accessory to complement an outfit.  Enjoy!

Style Muse: Fifty Shades of Grey

Unlikely Fashion Inspiration: Fifty Shades of Grey
I bought Fifty Shades of Grey this last Monday, and am almost finished with the book already…  It truly is addictive and I finally understand what all the hype is about.  I have been envisioning what Ana and Christian look like, and have been inspired by her grungy, tomboy style.  It sounds very carefree and simple, as she often refers to her black jeans, converse and (what I imagine to be a) motorcycle jacket. I chose the graphic tee with a lip being bit, as anyone who has read Fifty Shades of Grey knows it is referenced quite often throughout it.  Of course, I had to add the beautiful lingerie, and the black Chanel perfume simply seemed fitting, with its opaque, sleek black bottle.
Have you read the book?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to my new kicks, two fresh and beautiful pairs of Jeffrey Campbells.  I found these yesterday at LF Stores on 5th Avenue (In case you didn’t hear, they are having their seasonal sale with 60% off everything!), and the blue ones happened to be the only ones in the store… And one lesson I have learned is that if the one-of-a-kind heel fits, buy it.  I love the phantom wedge, as well as the loafer-style flap.

Below are the Jeffrey Campbell Lindy Shoes.  I love the unique take on a saddle shoe, and am dreaming of the cute outfit combinations, like a striped button-up or a cute pair of cat-eye glasses.

What are your opinions on the shoes?

Edwardian Street Style

Kensington and Chelsea Library recently released these photographs which captured womens’ fashion in London and Paris as far back as the 1900’s.  They were photographed by Punch cartoonist, Edward Linley Sambourne.  Who knew modern day street style photography actually dates back to over a century ago?

What’s Trending: Soft Leather

Motorcycle-inspired clothing has been seen everywhere in recent times, from combat boots to biker jackets.  And everyone knows, motorcycles are synonymous with leather.  While soft, opulent Italian leather is the ideal, it is a bit harsh on your wallet, yet inexpensive- dare I mention the dreadful word pleather- tends to look, well… Cheap.  Thus, I was inspired to go on a mission to compile beautiful leather looks from the web that won’t break the bank.  Here are some of my favorites:

This skirt is from Mango, and is marked down from $179 to $89.  I love the pleats, and, of course, the two front pockets.  Find it here.

Weekend Wardrobe: What To Wear To An Art Museum

Weekend Wardrobe: What To Wear To An Art Museum

Art museums are a great way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon. Naturally, this outfit was inspired by modern art. The lion graphic tee is inspired by Schiaparelli (and note: if you live near the NYC area, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is still showing the ‘Schiaparelli vs. Prada: Impossible Conversations’ until next Sunday, August 19). Bright colors are a great way to infuse an artistic sense of creativity into your outfit, and you’re sure to stand out with red lips and bright yellow nails.

NYC Street Style

This week, I went out and took some street photos of some stylish ladies on the streets on Manhattan.  Some of the most popular trends I noticed were neon brights, printed dresses and pants, loose-fitting basics on top paired with skinny jeans, and lots of colored, soft leather.  Read on to see more of the shots.

Seeing Double: Prints on Prints

Prints paired with prints are trending everywhere this season, from the runways to the streets.  However, this trend is fairly difficult to master, as it involves defying the rules of matching that we have always abided by.  To master this ultra chic look, use a neutral color, such as black or grey, on either the top or the bottom, and choose color for the other print.  Altogether, the underlying rule for success is to use colors that complement each other.  Florals are a great print to pair; not only do they go well with other florals, they also combine well with geometric and grid-like prints.  The best way to find what goes well together in your closet is to simply experiment!  The different combinations are endless, and it guarantees that you won’t be seeing another lady on the street in the same outfit.
