Nine West Launches Channel 9 on YouTube

Nine West, the shoe retailer and e-tailer, recently debuted its first YouTube shows, on a channel known as “Channel 9“.  The shows highlight style tips, makeovers, how-to videos, and celebrity fashion updates.  So far, it has already attracted 40,000 views and 1,800 subscribers.

The channel will feature a series of episodes, including:

  • You’ve Been Schooled: Fashion Shoot 101“, which will feature Kelly Cutrone, along with other styling professionals.
  • You’ve Been Prom’d“, which follows a group of high school students selected to receive shoe, makeup and wardrobe makeovers in anticipation of their high school prom.
  • Shoe Fix” is shot at Nine West’s Nashville store, in which YouTube stars Megan & Liz give girls advice on picking the right shoes, and shoe repair tips.
  • Shoe Hoarders“, which will show closets and profiles of, as Nine West claims, “some of the greatest and very unapologetic shoe addicts of all time”.
  • Confessions“, which is a community-based show, which will include not only celebrities discussing their experiences with their favorite shoes, but also will include users, whom are encouraged to submit their own confessionals.

Some users will be able to tell their stores at “Confessionals”, booths set up at the Madison Ave and SoHo Stores in Manhattan on Fashion’s Night Out (September 6).  Here is a preview of the channel below:

Check out these unique floral print John Fluevog Arch Boots.  With boots making their usual comeback for the fall and winter season, these add a fun, tropical touch to any outfit, and would look great with a pair of blue skinny jeans.  They actually look rather comfortable, despite the 4 1/2 inch heel (at least there’s a 2 1/2 inch platform).  You can find a pair for yourself here.

What’s Trending: Tweed

Tweed has gone through a rejuvenation in recent times, and has become softer and more comfortable.  It is making a fashionable comeback, and the 1950’s style suiting has been seen everywhere lately from jackets and pants to dresses, shorts, and even high heels (see the previous post about Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem here).

I’ve been scouring the web for reasonably priced, high fashion tweed items, as it will be an autumn and winter fashion trend that will keep you warm and fashionable (a rare duo).

The fringe details on this Rebecca Taylor jacket makes it really stand out from the crowd, and the unique and classy take on a motorcycle jacket is simply stunning.  Find it here.

A New Kind of Fashion: Constrvct

Constrvct is a unique fashion site that recently caught my eye.  It isn’t that much of a surprise that this concept was created by Continuum Clothing, the same makers of the world’s first 3D printed bikini.  The company’s founders’ goal is to create a “social fashion label” that reflects on the creativity of the people who wear them.

Basically, the concept of the application is it is a kind of do-it-yourself design.  The site offers a few classic silhouettes where the user can create their own design on by uploading photos or images that are turned into digitally printed clothing.  The artwork and cutting pattern are printed onto the fabric with inkjet textile printing.  Not only does the user get to design the print, they also can design everything from the tag-less printed labels to the packaging.

Here are some examples of the designs and styles of the clothing.

The founders have an ultimate goal to achieve a truly crowdsourced fashion design by allowing anyone to publish, and even sell, their own collection, with full production and retail ready to go.  They are currently working on more designs and are set to launch in Fall 2012.  You can read more about Constrvct here.

Weekend Wardrobe: Sailing on a Boat

Sunday Funday: Sailing on a Boat

Sailing is such a relaxing activity, feeling the wind in your hair and watching the rhythmic pattern of the waves while basking in the warm radiance of the sun. A printed swimsuit gives an edge to a one-piece, and a matching flower to pin back your hair gives off a bohemian chic vibe. A sheer maxi skirt, like the one pictured, complements the carefree look, and a fitted crop top ties the look together. A big tote bag is perfect for carrying your essentials. Sit back, relax, and unwind during the last weekend of August.

Agyness Deyn for Dr. Martens

Agyness Deyn, English fashion model, actress and singer, has a unique look and an even more interesting style to match.  In my personal opinion, her style is the epitome of the 90’s grunge look.  Although she has done some fashion design before, her collaboration with Dr. Martens, which recently debuted could not be more fitting with her style.  The 90’s grunge, vintage vibe and freeness that inspired her is evident in the collection, which includes apparel, accessories and footwear.  She told Vogue recently, “I wanted the collection to look like someone had gone into a charity shop, like I did when I was a teenager, and come out dressed head-to-toe in what they’d bought.”

The collection includes tartan jumpsuits, button-though maxi dresses covered in daisy prints, tough khaki parkas, checked skirts in green and navy, heart-shaped bags and boots to bring you right back to the last decade.

Here is the film for her collaboration:

Here are some of my favorite pieces from the collection:

This is an acid green heart satchel from the collection, which is a playful take on the classic Dr. Martens satchel.

Oh, this sweater!  Check out the back, below.  So cool, right?!

You can find the entire collection here.  And hey, even if you’re not a fan of the 90’s grunge movement, its still interesting to ogle and reminisce about.  It brings me back to the 90’s, when I got my first pair of Dr. Martens, a nice pair of floral printed maroon boots.

Do Dr. Martens invoke any nostalgic memories for any of you?  What do you guys think of the collection?

Herve Leger by Max Azria are constantly challenged with the underlying question of how to bring a new dimension to their label’s trademark bandage dress, as well as complementing accessories.  Yet every season, they overcome this challenge effortlessly with their unique pieces.  These bold Abrielle Sandals are constructed by a twisted metallic-leather combination, and are perfect for the remaining weeks of summer.  You can find ’em here.

What’s Trending: Studs and Spikes

Lately, studs and spikes have been everywhere on apparel and accessories, from the runway to the streets.  What’s more, they’re so easy to decorate your wardrobe with.  I recently bought some pyramid studs, and so far have studded a pair of shoes, the back of a pair of shorts, and the lapels of my favorite pink blazer.  I’m dreaming of the endless possibilities, and have been searching for more inspiration throughout the web.  Here are some of my favorite pieces:

Denim and studs are a perfect match.  Buy it here.

I love the how the studs give an edginess to a simple pair of white sneakers.  You can find ’em here.

NYC Street Style

This past week, I had the pleasure of walking around Manhattan while photographing some interesting and very fashionable ladies.  Some of the recent street style trends I observed consist of sneakers (especially Converse), denim button-ups, leopard print, and leather.  Here’s a peek at some of my favorite shots, after the cut.
