SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Golden Goose

I’m a sucker for any fashion item vaguely reminiscent of comic books or superheroes, so naturally, when I came across these cute little white and black boots from Golden Goose, I was smitten.  The chunky heel gives it a casual, laid-back vibe, and the open-toe is perfect for the spring and summer.  Pair ’em with cropped boyfriend jeans, or balance the monochrome black & white with a bright, colorful ensemble.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Gianmarco Lorenzi

Gianmarco Lorenzi is all about glamour, luxury, high fashion, and lavish extravagance, among other glittery things fashionistas dreams are made of.

So, how could I resist showing off this shiny and beautiful leather sandal from the Summer 2015 collection?  I simply cannot think of anything this sandal wouldn’t go with, but am dreaming of rocking ’em paired with a pastel romper or dressed up with culottes and a high neckline.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Rick Owens (NSFW)

I’m going to confess something that 90% of people in the fashion world will find atrocious: I don’t love Rick Owens.  In all nonsensical honesty, I feel like Rick Owens’ designs are an inside joke that I just don’t get, and I’m stuck smiling awkwardly…while I wonder if anyone else *really* gets it either.

Rick Owens F/W 2015-16 Runway

Rick Owens Fall/Winter 2015-16 Runway

For example, his Fall 2015 runway show where he sent his male models down the runway wearing clothing that exposed their genitals.  Or his extremely unconventional Spring 2014 show where he featured anything but your average size 0 models.  I can totally respect avant garde fashion and pushing the limits of creativity, however, I feel as though these bizarre stunts are just that- stunts to get noticed.

I believe the clothing of fashion designers should speak for itself- and be unique and amazing enough to capture the attention of the public.

I will say, however, that this matte leather mule by Rick Owens is certainly one hell of a conversation starter, and would complement any “cavewoman chic” wardrobe.  Wear ’em with a cozy, suede cloak, or perhaps a solid pair of assless leather chaps.  Of course, if you are feeling a little more wild, pair ’em with one of those classy genital-exposing cloaks (or something like that).

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Etro

One of this summer’s hottest trends is bohemian-inspired styles circa 1970, as seen on the runways via platform shoes, fringe, wide-legged flares, and paisley prints.  Etro, a label known for its free-spirited flare and colorful prints, showcased knee-high fringe moccasins on their Spring/Summer 2015 runway, while these beaded suede sandals are now stealing the show.

Pair ’em with embellished white denim trousers for a low-key daytime look, or with a fringed skirt, like this DKNY one, to amp up the sex appeal.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Nicholas Kirkwood

What better way to wear a pop of color than on your feet?

Colorblocked shoes were seen all over the Spring 2015 runways, from blue & pink at Versace to green, blue, pink, & yellow at Burberry.  Nicholas Kirkwood shows off his unique style with an orange, yellow, pink, & blue pump adorned with a chunky silver metallic heel.  Although it seems at first glance it would be difficult to pair such a colorful shoe with many outfits, I’ve found that the more colors in a shoe, the easier it tends to be, as each one of the subtle colors blends perfectly with a solid color outfit on top.  Or, pick one or two of the colors, and match it with a printed dress in the corresponding color, and voilà!  A perfectly styled outfit that’s right on trend.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Maison Margiela

The house of Maison Margiela is known for deconstruction and discretion.  The Belgian designer Margiela has never even appeared on the runway for any of his shows, and wishes to be completely anonymous (here is a wonderful resource with more information if you’re interested).  However, whether that is why John Galliano, who recently took over the reigns as designer for the house, did not take a bow and instead let his work stand for itself at its Paris Fashion Week show is up to you to decide (the designer was briefly out of the fashion world since being fired from Dior in 2011 for an anti-semitic rant at a bistro in Paris, then spent some time in rehab).

Maison Martin Margiela’s style has always been gritty, minimalistic, and art-centric.  Enter, these Maison Margiela hand-painted booties.  They’re certainly out there, but the style is a Margiela signature design, and are kind of like high-fashion’s answer to floral Doc Marten’s.

Pair it with this adorable matching silver-plated daisy earring for a perfect Spring outfit.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Tamara Mellon

Athletic-inspired fashion is still happening in full force, and that includes shoes.  Bright colors, metallic accents, and mesh detailing are all key aspects of this trend.  Check out these Tamara Mellon sandals, equipped with silver metallic straps, mesh detailing, and a pop of bright orange to create an eye-catching shoe that’s perfect for all your sporty outings (and yes, that totally includes walking up to a rooftop patio to get cocktails).

Pair ’em with a jersey shift dress or with a LBD and orange clutch to complement the look.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Kenzo

Kenzo’s creative directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, have been business partners since 2002 when they founded Opening Ceremony in New York.  Together, they have captured the carefree and playful spirit of Kenzo, with unexpected prints, patterns, and a totally unique way of embracing fashion.

These white, black, and blue sandals are different than Kenzo’s signature green & blue color scheme, yet embody their unique, eclectic style.  Personally, I think they look like super-hot Stormtrooper-inspired heels.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Simone Rocha

Chinoiserie-inspired prints were everywhere at Simone Rocha‘s Spring 2015 runway show.  The red satin brogues have a pointed toe and signature Perspex heel, and are adorned with whimsical matching floral appliqués.  Style them with a matching bright and colorful dress, inspired by Rocha’s runway show, or balance out the look by pairing them with a pair of denim skinnies and a crisp white blouse and blazer.
