Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2016 Campaign

Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2016 Campaign

Saint Laurent has had a controversial last 4 years after Hedi Slimane took the reigns as creative director, immediately altering the name from Yves Saint Laurent, or YSL, to Saint Laurent, and infusing the brand with his signature sense of rock & roll style.  To add to the controversy, earlier this month, Kering Group, owner of Saint Laurent, has announced the departure of Hedi Slimane.  While there has been no word of who will take his place, there has been talk of Anthony Vaccarello last February.

Regardless, some of my favorite pieces from Saint Laurent à la Hedi have been the floral print & embroidery, inspiration circa ’90’s-grunge era.  Take, for example, these rain boots below that are utter and complete perfection.  Wear them at Coachella and every other music festival for the ultimate in boho chic.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Saint Laurent

Hedi Slimane has been creating some controversy as designer of fashion house Saint Laurent, which instigated The Independent to write this article, which, in turn, caused New York Magazine‘s fashion component, The Cut, to write this refutation.  If you’d rather look at pretty pictures than read all those big words, stay here, and check out Saint Laurent’s ‘babies’ Mid-Calf Boots, Americana-style.  These silver-toned mid-calf boots are certainly appropriate for at least three occasions: Fashion Week, the 4th of July, and Texas (totally joking, ya’ll!).  Pair ’em with some red or blue daisy dukes, or a sleek all-black ensemble.

The Sexiest Red Heels for Every Price Range

trends and tribulations

From taxi shoes to masquerade masked heels to the infamous Sophia Webster pencil heels, I have a more than unhealthy obsession of shoes.  However, there’s one thing missing.  I have no red heels.

After perusing website after website searching for the perfect pair, I found (as I so often do) too many pairs than will fit in either of my two shoe closets at this time (that is, until I figure out how I can transform my guest room into an adequate shoe room)…  I found pairs from every price range, and the next best thing to owning the shoes is sharing them with you lovely readers.

Pair them with a pair of cuffed denim jeans and a white button-up, or dress them up with a LBD and fire-engine red lipstick for the ultimate show-stopping look.  Enjoy!

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Saint Laurent

There are some things in fashion out there that simply boggle my mind.  I’m all for styles of the tongue-in-cheek variety, but often I have to question if the designer honestly thought: This is a good look.

This was brought to mind recently when discovering these Saint Laurent Patti studded goat hair ankle boots.  The goat hair is covering every part of the visible boot, thus creating what my boyfriend likes to call “The Chewbacca Effect“.  What’s more, they are almost all sold out.  What’s even more, these bad boys are running at almost $2,000 a pop.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY

Lightning stripes and bold geometrical patterns on shoes is becoming a huge trend for this Spring and Summer.  Check out these amazing Saint Laurent Janis pumps.  With mesh nylon and a metallic overlay, these pumps can be paired with virtually anything.  And, once a big fashion don’t, combining gold and silver metallics is becoming very popular.

They Saved the Best for Last: Paris Fashion Week

Paris fashion week has finally come to an end, officially marking the end of the four biggest and most influential fashion weeks (New York, London and Milan).  Of course, they went out with a bang featuring Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, and, well, the list goes on.  In case you missed any of the shows, here’s a quick visual recap for your viewing pleasure.

Yves Saint Laurent 2.0 (aka Saint Laurent Paris)

Hedi Slimane, the former creative director of Dior Homme and recently became the new creative director for Yves Saint Laurent, is showing YSL’s Spring/Summer 2013 at Paris Fashion Week on October 1.  There has been much controversy over his new branding methods for YSL, including changing the name to “Saint Laurent Paris“, which is reminiscent over the original name in 1966, which was “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche“.  Below is one of the company’s Fall 2012 rock’n’roll inspired ads adorned with the new logo.

There is also much anticipation of his new store concept which is to be “the first unit in the world to reflect a new floor-to-ceiling store concept developed by Slimane, who is applying a 360-degree makeover to the mythic fashion house”.  Here are some of the tidbits from the interview between WWD and Hedi Slimane.

  • Hedi Slimane’s main goal for YSL is to revolutionize fashion again, as Mr. Saint Laurent did in the Sixties.
  • They are planning to open 15 stores and shops-in-shops per year.
  • All aspects of the new brand identity will be complete and in stores by January 2013.
  • YSL’s ready-to-wear line will feature a broader price range to attract a younger client base.
  • Upgrades and reorganization to production, product development, and merchandising have been implemented.
  • The new store design is inspired by French Art Deco and the French Union of Modern Artists movements.
  • The key materials used in the new stores will include “black and white marble, raw concrete and Thirties-esque display furniture with gold, silver, mirror and glass.”

Saint Laurent New Store Concept

I’ve always loved YSL (especially their accessories- which, by the way, they are upgrading and reworking) and think they are going in a very positive direction.  What are your thoughts on the new branding and store concept?
