SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Chiara Ferragni

Chiara Ferragni, the well-known fashion blogger who goes by the name of The Blonde Salad.  The street style starlet has collaborated with many well-known designers, including the likes of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Tommy Hilfiger, and J. Brand, before starting her own brand of adorable & funky footwear.

While her collection of flats are absolutely stunning, she has recently come out with more heels in her namesake fashion line (much to my excitement!).  These comic-book inspired mules are both fun and fashion-forward.  Wear them with a pair of high-waisted, cropped skinny jeans and a white t-shirt or paired with a simple red shift dress to complete the look.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Roberto Cavalli

Fringe can easily take on the bohemian feel of the wild west, or embody the lavish glamour of the 1920’s and 1930’s.  These sandals are a shining example of the latter.  Covered in an ornate gold color, these exude all of the beauty and charm of old hollywood that only film noir seems to capture so eloquently.

Pair these sandals with a simple LBD, red lipstick, and as much gold jewelry as your heart desires (which is always too much, right ladies?).

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Nº21

Nº21 was founded in 2010 by Alessandro Dell’Acqua, who also serves as the creative director at the fashion house Rochas.  Alessadro uses his eye for modern design to create unique and eye-catching pieces designed for fashionable women.  The sandals below are a great example of how the designer stretches the boundaries of modern design to create truly remarkable pieces that are more like a work of art than simply a pair of shoes.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana are known for having delicate & intricate designs, of which the details become the most important parts.  These embellished sandals, complete with jewel-tone beads, yellow bananas, and forest green pompoms clearly represent their new jungle theme through each of the detailed elements, while the raffia-style heel and clasp adds a natural final touch.  They also have a similar pair in red and black.  Match them with a wicker bag, like this one by D&G here, and with a flowy, white sundress for the perfect summer look.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Monolo Blahnik x Rihanna

via Vogue UK April 2016

via Vogue UK April 2016

Rihanna launched her limited-edition shoe collab with Manolo Blahnik on May 5, and her fans managed to crash the designer’s website (again and again and again).  The collection features six different shoe styles, including a pair of $4,350 thigh-high denim boots with an embellished garter belt attached.  So, yes, denim assless chaps that are more expensive than most people’s monthly rent payments.

Oh!  But they come with a sketch signed by both Rihanna and Blahnik, so they basically pay for themselves (or something like that….right?).  Check ’em out for yourself below, and see how an editor at Racked styled them (before she was asked to leave the store) here.

Personally, I happen to detest western-inspired embellishments, denim boots, and, the real clincher, assless chaps, so I will not be snagging a pair of these bad boys anytime soon.  But hey, that just means one more pair available for those of you who love them.  On that note, I leave you with a shot featuring Jennifer Lopez donning a pair in her new “Ain’t Your Mama” video.

Happy 4th Anniversary, Trends & Tribulations!

Happy 4th Anniversary to Trends & Tribulations!

When I started this blog, I had no idea that 4 years from then, I would still be passionately writing away about my favorite fashion designers, trends, and everything in between.  The main reason for creating Trends & Tribulations was really just because I was living this new life in NYC as a fashion trend consultant, and basically, my life was centered around fashion, which meant that I wanted to talk about it 24/7, and it just so happened that my then boyfriend wanted to talk about other things once in a while (I know…it was totally nonsensical of him).

Sometimes, I’m overwhelmed by how much things change.  I had no idea I would be where I am today, and, honestly, I didn’t plan my life like this.  But I couldn’t be happier, and this is exactly why I am certain that everything happens for a reason.

I love you all, and want to give a big THANK YOU to you readers for your kind words and support.  I welcome any and all feedback, and am so happy to continue to evolve and grow.  I hope you all will continue to enjoy Trends & Tribulations for years to come.

Sophie

Try These 5 Easy Steps for Spring Closet Cleaning

Spring is here, and there’s no better time to welcome it than by eliminating all of the unnecessary clutter in your life.  Check out these easy tips for organizing your closet (which is recommended as the first place to start when cleaning out your home), divided into 5 tried-and-true steps.  I’ve recently been inspired by Marie Kondo’s “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”, and man, does it feel good to part ways with things that are not *sparking joy* (read that decluttering bible– see for yourself).  Enjoy!

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Miu Miu

Miu Miu is totally killing it in the shoe department lately.  First, the glittery retro heels that dreams are made of, and now…  Pink, yellow, and grey color blocked cowgirl boots with their logo and KITTENS (they are always kittens, never cats, to me…) emblazoned on ’em.  These badass boots scream IDGAF…  in the cutest way possible.  Wear ’em with a pair of denim jeans and a white button up, or with an all black ensemble for a chic look that lets these boots stand out on their own.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Gucci

Up until 2014 when Alessandro Michele took the reigns as the new creative director of Gucci, the label had lost some of its luster in recent times (aka: post the reign of Tom Ford).  Sure, they had maintained a luxury status due to their monogram and the loyal customer base, but essentially, it just hadn’t kept up with the ever changing world of fashion.

Enough lingering on the past.  The point being, is that Alessandro Michele is a freaking genius, and he’s dolled up the fashion house real pretty since coming into office.  After his first Gucci presentation in February last year he said, “It’s been 20 years since Tom worked his magic at Gucci. The world is completely different. What women want is completely different. Amen.

After their fashion-forward September catwalk show last season, they became Net-a-Porter’s second best-selling brand.  Naturally, the shoes have become a game-changer once again, with sky-high platforms, and enough studs to officially dub them a lethal weapon.  See the almost-sold out (albeit still in pre-order) Malin Spiked Leather Sandals below, with the signature Gucci colors, and adorned with dangerously alluring details.  Style these sandals with a boxy skirt and geek-chic details to balance out the look.
