Summer is lurking around the corner and it will be no time when we immerse our feet into the hot sand and take a swim in salty water (or at least pay a visit to your nearest swimming pool). While the anticipation builds for all of the summer’s plans, the most important question remains: What do I wear? Luckily, Miami Swim Week gave as pretty much a clear picture of what this swimwear season will look like, and we must admit that we are absolutely thrilled about the upcoming trends. Some trends from the last season, such as extreme cut-outs and sporty cut-away bikinis are still on the top, while we have spotted a number of new and exciting trends.

Long Sleeve Swimsuit

Spotted on Swim Week – long sleeves are effectively taking over the scene. We have seen them on Belusso, 6 Shore Road, and Acacia, and we will continue on seeing them on the beaches this summer. No longer are the long sleeves reserved for surfers- now, ordinary beach visitors are wearing them, too.

This look is a fresh take on swimwear fashion, and we salute the risk. Long-sleeve swimsuits can be found in different varieties, from sleek and sophisticated, to fun & playful.

The beginning of the year was celebrated as the season of metallic, and there are ways for everyone to wear it. Furthermore, it is the choice of the year for weddings, so that naturally transitioned into swimwear fashion. Gottex, Belusso, and Hammoc showed us how to rock this trend (in accents or full metallic). Not only it is a great way to shine, but it will also make your sun kissed skin look even more amazing.

The design is ideal if you want to combine your outgoing and bold personality with your more conservative side. Barbie’s Got a New Look… And It’s Totally Unexpected

With the warm weather approaching, stores are showcasing their hottest swimwear designs, and Target is no exception. Recently, they teamed up with the iconic Barbie® doll to create a body-positive campaign. Target asked Barbie® to model new looks inspired by Target swimsuits. Barbie® not only obliged, but added three new body types: Curvy, Petite, and Tall, and expanded the variety of skin tones and hairstyles.

The two brands collaborated to motivate women to feel great about their bodies in their swimsuits, and eliminate body insecurities. You can shop these new dolls and swimsuits in your size here.

Swimwear Trends for the Upcoming Season

Choosing the right bikini or one-piece is often a lifelong struggle for women. On one hand, there’s all those “rules” that tell you which body type you have and which swim suit suits you best. On the other hand, there are always such amazing fashion trends that don’t exactly work for your body type. It’s a difficult process, but there is something for every body type to choose from with the range of different cuts, designs, and products.

Cuts

When it comes to the design of all types of swimsuits, it is easy to forget all that you know about them or you think you know. One thing is for sure, the one-piece swimsuits will be big this year, just as they were the previous season.

What makes them even more interesting are the alterations to the classical one piece swimsuits, like cut-outs. Also, don’t be surprised if you see some one piece swimsuits with leg openings that reach all the way over your hips, or those with collars or G-strings.

It seems that this year, the designers have attempted to reinvent the look of the swimsuits and break down all the rules. Two-piece swimsuits with long sleeves and those with many straps and ribbons will definitely leave some interesting tan lines on the beaches this year.

If you thought that the cuts will go nuts this season, you should definitely check out the colors and patterns. This season, you just cannot go wrong. The very colorful and complex patterns are a real hit this season. If they are on a two-piece swim suit they can be only on one piece while the other one can be single colored. Or it doesn’t have to be.

There are also some really nice, simple, one piece swimsuits with bright colors that resemble those of the ‘90s and even a whole trend of entirely black swimwear that combines some interesting materials and bring some classy elegance to the beach. While this extravaganza is in this year, there is also entirely different stream in trends this year, with very simple and sporty designs which go with those bright and simple colors and straight lines.

All these conclusions about the swim suits for the year to come are taken by analyzing and watching what the designers have come up with. To name the few: Department stores had some fun experimenting with new styles. Their choices for this season include straps, straps, and more straps which make one-piece suits look like two pieces connected with interesting cuts and designs.

Besides that, they used some crochet in their designs and focused their main colors on yellow and bright pink. On the other hand, Planet Blue has taken an entirely different direction with the colors. They are all for muted, earthy and skin tones and their prints are all scenery-like. The cuts and styles put the efficiency and sporty look as a priority. Alene Too wanted to make the swimwear something that will be worn outside the beach as well. Interesting cuts that resemble tops more than swim suits can be used as regular clothes as well.

What to expect to see in stores this Spring

All these ideas that come from the designers are interesting and fun, but once you go out in search of your go-to swimwear for this year, you can expect to see brands like Victoria Secret to have more universal versions of these design ideas, along with the classical cuts from past seasons.

Therefore, this year, it is very hard to go wrong. Perhaps, the best bet is to choose the suit according to your body type but go trendy with the choice of colors and patterns. The best thing about this trend is that if you cannot decide if you want a one color or patterned swimsuit, you can choose both!

Read This Before You Pack for Your Winter Vacation

The Perfect Swimwear for Your Vacation Destination

If you’ve planned a fall or winter vacation to somewhere warm, you’ve probably already thought about what you’re going to take with you. With the summer coming to an end, what are your options for finding a vacation-ready swimsuit (not to mention cover-up) that will look great and fit into the local vibe? Believe it or not, your options are not as limited as you might think.

When it comes to finding swimwear at the end of the summer, your best bet could be the Internet. Why? Because as stores are phasing out summer inventory to make way for fall and winter clothing and accessories, their Internet sites are not, because it doesn’t take up any precious floor space to offer swim apparel all year long on a website!

Keep in mind that online shopping, with all of its conveniences, does have one main drawback: shipping. Shipping may cost a few extra dollars (not always), but mainly, it takes time. So if you have less than a month before your departure, don’t wait another day to start perusing websites and ordering suits that you like.

Remember, you can always return what doesn’t work. Save the packaging and online receipt and you will have no trouble returning for full credit what doesn’t “suit” you!

If you do want to shop for swimsuits in person, your best option as the summer winds down is larger, national department stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks, Barneys New York, etc. These stores have so much retail space that they can afford to have some “resort wear” or seasonal items like swim suits all year long. You will be far less likely to find out-of-season items at smaller stores and boutiques, which must devote their space to what is in season and sought after by the majority of their customers.

So now that you know where to look, what do you wear poolside in different destinations? Again, your go-to source is the Internet. Find out what’s hot by searching online: magazines published in those countries or regions where you will be traveling are great sources of trendy looks.

Here are a few ideas to get you going:

· Miami:

Agent Provocateur Tricja Bikini, Top, $490, Bottoms, $500

As most people know, more is more (is more) in Miami when it comes to bling. Rhinestones, animal prints, jeweled looks and lots of straps and ties are what’s hot.

· Brazil:

Emamò Printed triangle bikini, $340

They’re called “Brazilian waxes” for a reason. Swimwear in Rio and other hot spots in the southern hemisphere are skimpy, as Brazilians believe in flaunting it if you’ve got it. Basically, the swimsuits in Brazil make what women are wearing in the United States look like giant diapers. However, contrary to some rumors, Brazilian women do not go topless on the beach. If you want to fit in with what the locals are wearing, leave very little to the imagination…and don’t forget your waxing appointment before you go.

Another tip: If you want to blend in at the beaches, don’t bring a towel. Brazilian women bring sarongs, or “cangas” to lay out on, and the men rent chairs to sit on in the sunshine. And if you really want to fit in, a pair of havaianas should do the trick.

· Las Vegas:

Notorious for its lavish day clubs where the party starts shortly after the sun comes up (and continues as long as you want), the swimwear styles in Vegas are chic and sleek, while also eye-catching and swanky. This sizzling two-piece (above) by Agent Provocateur complements tanned skin, and commands attention.

· Australia:

Clover Canyon
Pool Flower Front-Zip Top, $66, & Swim Bottom, $66

The land down under fairly closely follows American fashion, give or take a few details. Right now, the hot look in Australia is the high-waisted bikini bottom, just like in the United States. In fact, big bows, polka dots and plenty of material won’t make you look dowdy, but it will make you look like you’re on the cutting edge of fashion.

· Southern California:

Victoria’s Secret Beach Sexy Crop Rashguard, $28

Like most things in California, anything goes. Grab a pair of swim shorts (also called board shorts), a rash guard and a pair of flip-flops and fit right in! Or throw on a strappy bikini or polkadot, high-waisted 50s throwback and you’re all set.

Don’t forget the most important rule when it comes to picking out a swimsuit: how you feel when wearing it. The last thing you want to be doing is fidgeting or feeling self-conscious. Buy what you feel good in and you will look great and have fun!

Having children is one of the most joyous moments in life, but it comes with its share of drawbacks, and not just the lost sleep. Chief among those obstacles is the alteration, often permanent, to mommy’s figure. But rather than hiding away in the shadows, women are proudly rocking their newly minted mom bodies, and rightfully so. Summer’s uniform—the itsy bitsy swimsuit—shouldn’t stop them in their tracks.

If you’ve got kids, whether fresh from the oven or three years into high school, and you’re dreading the coming warm weather, never fear. Designers, once so dismissive of alternate body types, are now courting body diversity and offering every shape and size an opportunity to look fabulous and feel great. Already have invites to pool parties and beach days? Here are some of the best trends in swimwear for chic ladies who just happen to parent on the side.

Not a mom? That’s ok; these styles look scorching on everyone. I’m particular to the retro look, but there’s definitely something for everyone.

First off, everyone needs to invest in vintage-inspired fashion. With the ongoing obsession with mid and high-rise waists on pants, skirts, and even underwear, it should come as no surprise the fashion is translated for swimwear too. This is a major boon for women with a paunch, aka “mommy tummy,” who want to camouflage their belly.

Check out the geometric two-tone bandeau bikini above by Mara Hoffman. The strapless top shows off well-shaped shoulders while corralling the bust. The bottoms are playful and forgiving, with full coverage on the rear and that high-waist style everyone adores.

Another sophisticated yet wearable example of retro bikinis is the ruched two-piece halter combo from Norma Kamali, shown above. The pistachio-colored top inspires ice cream dreams while the flattering skirted bottom hides a whole host of issues, without ever looking like a swimsuit for trouble spots.
