SHOE PORN THURSDAY: Maison Margiela

The house of Maison Margiela is known for deconstruction and discretion.  The Belgian designer Margiela has never even appeared on the runway for any of his shows, and wishes to be completely anonymous (here is a wonderful resource with more information if you’re interested).  However, whether that is why John Galliano, who recently took over the reigns as designer for the house, did not take a bow and instead let his work stand for itself at its Paris Fashion Week show is up to you to decide (the designer was briefly out of the fashion world since being fired from Dior in 2011 for an anti-semitic rant at a bistro in Paris, then spent some time in rehab).

Maison Martin Margiela’s style has always been gritty, minimalistic, and art-centric.  Enter, these Maison Margiela hand-painted booties.  They’re certainly out there, but the style is a Margiela signature design, and are kind of like high-fashion’s answer to floral Doc Marten’s.

Pair it with this adorable matching silver-plated daisy earring for a perfect Spring outfit.

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

The collaboration between Maison Martin Margiela and H&M is scheduled to hit stores November 15, and they want you to know.  In highly populated cities around the world, such as Paris, Hong Kong, and San Francisco, hundreds of silent “protestors”  dressed in black and white aprons marched around carrying picket signs with the 0-23 logo we’ve seen quite a bit since the collection was publicized.  Naturally, they were silent and peaceful.

SHOE PORN THURSDAY

Generally speaking, I think of Shoe Porn as the shoes that are so unbelievably cute/sexy/drool-worthy that I simply must. have. in. my. closet. NOW.  However, sometimes you come across a shoe that is so absurdly strange that you wonder what the designer was thinking when they created it.  This is definitely the case with these boots from Maison Martin Margiela.  From the first picture, they are actually pretty cute and interesting, covered in cement and graffiti, and they are made of 80% calf and 20% cement, an interesting combination.

However, it is the front of the shoe that is the part I am having trouble with (see below).

Maison Martin Margiela x H&M Campaign Shots Revealed

Maison Martin Margiela and H&M are collaborating on a highly-anticipated line, and lucky for us, the photos from the campaign have been leaked.  It appears as though the French fashion house is keeping to its style, despite the lower price points.  Although many were initially surprised by this collaboration, Maison Martin Margiela explained its motives in a press release, saying “The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further.”  Catch a glimpse of what you’ll be seeing in stores via the photos below, shot by photographer and film director Sam Taylor-Johnson.

Best of Paris Fashion Week (to date)

It’s hard to believe Paris fashion week is almost coming to an end, marking the end of the top fashion weeks around the globe.  Despite the fact we still have a few amazing shows to look forward to (ahem, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, MiuMiu- to name a few…), there has been so many amazing collections, I couldn’t resist showing the highlights.  Some of the main fashion trends I noticed for Spring/Summer are minimalism, tons of leather and lace, and very feminine silhouettes and shapes, many reminiscent of the 1920’s and 1950’s.
