Summer Read: Overdressed

Overdressed’s author Elizabeth Cline offers a look at fast fashion from an different perspective , enlightening readers of the negative effects it is having on our planet , our culture and general well-being.  Not only so, it is having a negative effect on our wardrobe.  “The thing about cheap fashion is that you often wind up with a closet full of deals rather than a closet full of clothing you’ll actually wear,” Cline tells readers.  But do not worry, the book is not about reprimanding consumers for buying cheap clothing, it instead was written to help readers find viable solutions for the issue of fast fashion.  Some of the solutions highlighted in Overdressed include:

  1. Know that you get what you pay for.
  2. Learn how to spot value.
  3. Learn to sew.
  4. Hire a tailor.
  5. Buy from independent and local designers and boutiques.
  6. Buy from secondhand or vintage shops.
  7. Think of the future.

  1. I like your blog. I came across that book a few weeks ago and it really got me thinking. I have been very passionate about environmental causes for a very long time. However, here I was contributing greatly to the problem due to my “cheap fashion” consumption habit. It was a real eye opener.

Maybe we can do a collaboration together sometime. Also keep a look out for my next post coming today which will be about one of my favorite fashion icons.
